Job Purpose

The Musical Director will lead and guide our Worship Team in creating uplifting, spiritually enriching, and high-quality musical experiences during services, special events, and online platforms. The role requires a dedicated individual with a passion for worship, a strong musical background, and the ability to lead, inspire, and innovate.

Key Responsibilities

  1.  Leadership and Direction
    • Provide overall direction for the Worship Team in alignment with the church’s vision and goals.
    • Schedule, organise, and lead regular rehearsals in preparation for weekly services, special events, and recording sessions.
    • Cultivate a cohesive team dynamic and foster a spirit of unity, prayer, and commitment among team members.
    • Provide ongoing training and resources to enhance the musical skills of team members.
    • Address any performance concerns in a constructive manner, offering guidance and support.
    • Identify, recruit, and mentor new members for the Worship Team.
    • Ensure a strong musical talent pipeline among the church youth.
    • Ideate and implement the continuous iterative improvement of the worship experience.
  2. Music Selection, Arrangement, and Creation
    • Collaborate with church leadership to select songs that align with the theological and thematic focus of services.
    • Select set list for services and online content that align with desired culture/worship-style (Maverick City meets Songs of Prophesy, unpredictable spiritual experiences, fun and free)
    • Arrange music to best suit the capabilities of the team and the needs of the congregation/online-audience.
    • Lead and facilitate the writing of new original songs that resonate with the church’s mission and vision.
    • Work closely with the Audio/Visual Production Team to ensure sound checks, equipment setup, and other technical aspects run smoothly.
    • Offer feedback and suggestions for improving the overall worship experience, including audio quality, lighting, and stage design.
  3. Recording and Online Presence
    • Organise and oversee monthly recording sessions.
    • Collaborate with media teams to edit, produce, and publish recordings online.
    • Ensure proper branding, consistency, and quality across all online musical content.
  4. Event Preparation and Execution
    • Plan, organise, and execute musical components for special concerts, services, and events.
    • Coordinate with the Event Management Team for logistical needs, promotions, and event specifics.
  5. Spiritual Development and Fellowship
    • Lead and facilitate regular prayer sessions and spiritual fellowships with the worship team, fostering spiritual growth and unity.
    • Ensure that the worship team remains rooted in the church’s spiritual foundations and teachings.
  6. Administrative Duties
    • Manage the Worship Team’s budget, ensuring effective use of resources.
    • Manage Worship team rota ensuring all 100% fulfilment of required roles and a 3-on-1-off system for all team members.
    • Attend wider magnify department service retrospective meetings
    • Keep updated records of songs, copyrights, and licences.
    • Coordinate with other church departments as needed for cross-functional initiatives.

Qualifications and Skills

Education

  • Degree in Music or related field preferred, but not mandatory.

Experience

  • Experience leading or being part of a worship team or musical group.
  • Understanding of music production best practices.
  • Proficient in multiple musical instruments, with strong vocal capabilities.
  • Strong songwriting skills and an ear for contemporary and traditional worship styles.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, adapt to changing situations, and manage multiple projects.
  • Knowledge of recording technologies, sound systems, and audio equipment.
